08/15/2026 - Kitten Adoption & Story Time Event

Join us for a very special story time and kitten adoption event at Black Cat Fables! 😻

On Saturday, August 15, Pasadena Humane will visit Black Cat Fables with adoptable kittens! Kitten season is in full swing so most likely only kittens will be brought to the event.

When: Saturday, August 15, 2026 from 10:00am-1:00pm

Where: Black Cat Fables (415 S. Myrtle Avenue, Suite B, Monrovia, CA 91016) in front of the little purple couch!

About the adoption process:

Pasadena Humane adheres to an open-adoption process – requirements are that adopters be at least 18 years old, have a valid ID, and provide a residential address.

Those wishing to adopt will be able to complete the 10 to 15 minute adoption process with Pasadena Humane at the event, and their team will be here to answer questions and facilitate any adoptions. All kittens attending the event will be ready to go home same-day!

The adoption fee for kittens under six months old is $150. Pasadena Humane has a promotion where adopters can adopt one kitten and have the adoption fee waived for a second kitten (kittens always do better in pairs!). Adopters can take advantage of the promotion the same day or return anytime within 30 days to adopt their second kitten with the fee waived.

Through the Friends of Seniors partnership, adopters age 60 or older receive $75 off their adoption fee. Additionally, through the Pets for Veterans partnership, all former and active-duty military will have the adoption fee fully waived (military ID or veteran designation on driver's license/ID is required). 

Cardboard carriers will be provided for the kittens to go home in. However, if anyone is coming to the event with the intention of adopting and already has a carrier, bringing it is always preferred! Pasadena Humane will remain at Black Cat Fables until around 1pm for those who visit after story time.

About this month's story time:

This month Story Time Lady will read At the Rescue Cat Café written by Anna Humphrey and illustrated by Kari Rust. Intended audience age for story time is 3 and up, but all ages are welcome! No RSVP needed, but if you'd like to let us know you're coming we would appreciate it! A kids craft will follow story time.

A whole clowder of cats resides at the Rescue Cat Café. Each cat is distinct in look and personality, and each is in need of a forever home. Handsome Henry sleeps in a sunbeam, mysterious Ming winds around ankles, and ChiChi and Bunnykin are bold and adventurous. But you won't see Mouse--he hides away, watching all the activity with round green eyes.

Each day of the week, a visitor comes to the café and adopts a cat that's just right--a perfect human-cat pairing. And by the time Sunday rolls around, even shy Mouse finds his forever home.

It emphasizes the importance of adopting animals in need of a home and offers gentle validation for readers (and cats!) about coming out of your shell at your own pace when you're nervous or shy.
